Junior tennis

Juniors are players under the age of 18. VTC runs a saturday morning competition for those young players wishing to test their skills against other similarly aged players. Juniors are also eligible to complete in the senior competitions, and often fill in for Senior teams as emergencies.

Saturday Morning

Junior tennis occupies all of our courts on Saturday mornings during the Summer and Winter seasons, with the exception of  School Holidays. The Junior season runs from early February until early December.

Senior tennis

Beyond the age of 18 years, players are considered to be Seniors and can no longer compete in junior competitions.  For Seniors the Vermont Tennis Club offers a range of competition alternatives.

Saturday Afternoon

Teams are either Men’s, Women’s or Open. Matches are played as Sets (in which a match consists of a single set, either 6 or 8 games) or Rubbers (in which a match is the best of three sets).

Night Tennis

As our weekends get busier and busier, VTC also offers night competition in the Blackburn District Night Tennis Association (BDNTA) competition. Again this is a series of 14 home and away matches followed by finals. Teams are either Ladies or Open. Matches are doubles only, and played as first to 6 sets with a tie-break at 5 all.

Mid-Week Ladies

VTC competes in the Midweek Eastern Metropolitan Regional Ladies Tennis Competition (MEMRLTA) on Tuesdays, and in the Ferntree Gully and Districts Ladies Tennis Association (FGDLWTA) on Wednesdays. Each season has 14 home and away matches, followed by finals. Matches are played in the mornings starting at 9.30am and matchplay usually finishing around 12 -12.30pm, followed by a social lunch in the club rooms.

Winter Pennant

For a more serious level of competition the club also offers Winter pennant which is run by Tennis Victoria. This competition runs through winter and is a home and away series of singles and doubles rubbers.
